The DECS Basic Emergency Life Support (BELS) course is a new, longer and competency assessed basic first aid course – this is because of changed requirements in the first aid field, and not driven by DECS. The changes include competency based assessment on CPR, administration of adrenalin via an Epipen for anaphylaxis reactions, use of a puffer with a spacer and management of bleeding.
