If these were juvenile offenses, your chances should be about the same as anyone else’s. But you should talk to someone who knows both the rules in your jurisdiction and how you should handle questions like “do you have a criminal record?” This isn’t my specialty by any means, but bear in mind that whether your record is in the public record is a different question from whether you’re honest. I’d bet that different jurisdictions have different rules on this — and I would also bet that you’re not the first person in your area to confront that issue. And I’m sure others have navigated the same barrier before. And thank you for wanting to pursue a career in public service. Firefighters are heroes and never get the recognition that they deserve.
