What are the chances of Bush reviewing gun control policy in USA?
Bush and Co. will do nothing about gun control in the USA because they are all solidly behind the gun lobby which is solidly behind the gun manufacturers, which is solidly behind, etc. The real problem is a mis-interpretation of that part of the Constitution which deals with ‘arms’. The Constitution does not in fact give the ‘citizen the right to bear arms’. What it actually does is to give ‘the citizens militia the right to bear arms’. Note the word militia. This is an arm of the military made up of local recruits in a town who form their own militia. Such a militia has the right not only to bear arms, but also to shoot dead it’s own government. When will that happen? I am deeply saddened by what happened in Virginia yesterday. So too is the Queen, who has sent her own message of deep sadness and sympathy to the parents and families of the victims of this mass killing.
Gun control causes crime. Gun control has never worked anywhere so why cite it as a solution? Gun control is for Stalin and Hitler, not free Americans. I think it was a tragedy first and foremost and my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. The killer alone caused the crime, but the high number of victims is directly caused by gun control. The Virginia Tech killer never registered his gun, so why cite registration as a solution? They were just sitting ducks with no way to defend themselves much like the victims of Colin Ferguson. Concealed-carry advocates warned us all long ago to expect tragedies like this as long as we have gun control. When only criminals have guns the rest of us can only ponder tactics like “notifications.” Up to two million Americans defend themselves with guns and citizens with guns legally kill two times as many would-be killers as do police!
