What are the challenges of maintaining a “vintage” garden?
Maintaining a vintage garden really does not vary significantly from maintaining a modern garden. My biggest challenge is time. This is a large property to manage and I frequently run out of hours in the week before I run out of things that need my attention. I rely on volunteers to help with a variety of tasks. I have a wonderful core group of people who do a great job helping me to stay on top of things but we will always welcome anyone who would like to get involved regardless of skill level or experience. How do plants that were popular 100 years ago differ from those now used in flower gardens? Actually, our ancestors would probably recognize many of the plants we grow today.
