The law on environmental issues is constantly evolving to encourage sites to become more environmentally friendly. Some of the key challenges facing contractors and developers are: Site Waste Management Plans All projects over 250,000 pounds will need to implement Site Waste Management Plans from April 2008. This will encourage the segregation of waste and require sites to supply audit trails for all waste. This could possibly mean up to 6-7 skips on site, which will limit the room available. Sub-contractors will have a duty of care and be responsible for the waste they generate. The Landfill Directive The Landfill Directive and other Government guidelines has been brought about to regulate the types of waste that can be sent to landfill and sets pre-treatment targets.
