What are the challenges facing the crane industry?
Cost escalation in the crane industry is a threat. For example, in the present market, steel prices are soaring. When we have booked some orders, we you can’t go back and tell the customer that we want to increase our price because the price of steel has gone up. We have a pricing model: since our turnaround time for a crane is only 2-3 months, we procure steel required only for that particular order and at the prevalent price. So we are protected from risks when steel prices go up. Tell us about your manufacturing capacity. In India, we are the largest crane manufacturer in terms of quantity. In FY08, we closed at around Rs 115 crore and sold about 500 cranes, that is a record. Currently, our manufacturing facility is spread across 10,000 sq. metres and the new expansion will cover about 7,000 sq. metres.
