What are the causes of the Cuban Revolution?
The Cuban Revolution was an armed revolt that led to the overthrow of U.S.-backed dictator Fulgencio Batista of Cuba on January 1, 1959 by the 26th of July Movement led by Fidel Castro. Okay now it gets tricky, because for some reasons it is difficult to accept that to some americans that Cubas people were not happy with a dictatorship – no matter if it supported US or not. Baptista like any other dictator had political prisoners, …. He suppressed the opposition after he and the army did a coup d’état, when it was clear that the would loose the presidential elections. Castro who was a young lawer after that sued Baptista for upusing power… Of course justice (that was firmly in the hands of Baptista) did not allow that. After that Castro thought that his constitutional right to resistance enabled him to attack Moncada Barracks. – That of course was his interpretation it is questionable if he really was correct in it. He was driven away, went to exile, came back, people supported him
