See the TIPS tab for an in depth discussion on this issue… We have seen dialogue on the web discussion groups about a particular self steering unit that worked well on one boat but not on another or about very different performance reports of the same type of unit on the same model of boat. How can this be? A HYDROVANE like any other self steering gear should perform beautifully on any boat that sails well, easily holding its course. If it is easy to helm it will also be easy for the self steering system.
