What are the Causes of Nummular Eczema?
Nummular eczema, an inflammatory disease of the skin, received its name due to its peculiar look. This particular form of eczema forms coin-shaped lesions on the skin. (In Latin, the word “nummular” means coin.) The rash is most often found on the arms, buttocks, back or lower legs. As these lesions age, they may become scaly and crusty, resembling psoriasis or ringworm. Nummular eczema is a chronic condition that may worsen or get better over a period of time, but there is no cure for it. In fact, the cause of this relatively uncommon condition is still unknown, but a number of factors acting alone or together have been suspected.
