What are the causes of mild depression?
Depression has a variety of causes. Yours may result from genetics. You may have a chemical imbalance, such as low neurotransmitters and high homocysteine and cortisol. You may have a dietary deficiency of vitamins, zinc, magnesium, and potassium. You may have suffered child abuse or another traumatic life experience. Elders and the unemployed may be depressed because of isolation and lack of social support. Prolonged stress, chronic pain or long-term health problems like diabetes and kidney failure all result in depression. Substance abusers are more likely to be depressed. The hormonal changes of puberty, childbirth, and normal ageing all cause emotional turmoil that can lead to depression.
