What are the causes of low self esteem and how do they affect you?
The causes of low self esteem really depend on the person, but some general ones are listed below. The commonality in all of these causes is that your reaction to them included self blame and a negative view of yourself. Whether you told yourself it was your fault, someone else told you, or you felt it deep down and never articulated it, poor self esteem develops because you perceive yourself as not being good enough, and so when things don’t go well you tell yourself it’s because you’re not good enough. If you do that enough times, it becomes a part of your self concept and you start to automatically think it. So while there can be many causes of low self esteem, it’s an ongoing process not something that just happened to you.
