In other words, the parts of your brain and central nervous system that deal with pain signals work differently. This is called central pain sensitization. The ignition of this process is thought to be caused by stressors, whether physical or emotional. These symptoms emerge from abnormal responses following dramatic events or stressful periods in a person’s life. Stress can be anything from a car accident, a fall, an illness or infection, to divorce, loss of a job or house or even acquiring a new house or job. Stressors can be both distressing and pleasant events.
