What are the Causes, incidence, and risk factors associated with Carpal tunnel syndrome?
The syndrome is caused when pressure is applied on the median nerve passing through the wrist. The median nerve is responsible in the movement of part of the hand. It also provides sensation to the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and the thumb-side of the ring finger and palm. Carpal tunnel is defined as a region from where the nerve penetrates the hand. Swelling in this region can lead to additional pressure on the nerve, commonly known as entrapment of the nerve. This entrapment occurs due to stiff passageway. The condition may lead to damage of the wrist area resulting in bulging of the tissues and carpal tunnel syndrome.
