What are the cause and effect of dirty oil?
Dirty oil is created by the generation of solid and liquid contaminants from the engine combustion process, general oxidation and by outside contaminants entering the oil. The combustion process will create water, carbon particles and sulfur oxides, which combined with the ingress of dirt, dust, acid and foreign matter enters the lubrication system through blow-by, forming sludge, varnish and acids, thereby adversely affecting the viscosity and lubricating properties of the oil. It has been proven that filtering particles within oil down to 5 microns in size does not significantly reduce engine wear, whereas filtering down to 1 micron does significantly reduce engine wear. The puraDYN® system does filter oil down to 1 micron. All petroleum products contain some amount of natural sulfur. In the engine combustion process, this sulfur becomes sulfur dioxide which enters the lubrication system through blow-by, and when mixed with water produces sulfuric acid. Sulfur dioxide also contaminat
