What are the blue lights on some of the traffic signals?
The blue indicator lights help police enforce red light violations. The police officer waits in a safe location off the street where both the blue light and limit line on the pavement can be observed. When the red light comes on, so does the blue light. In this way, the officer can determine if a motorist entered the intersection on the red light.
