What are the black fibrous threads that run thru a ripe avocado?

In my experience with avocado’s, and I’ve eaten a few…fresh avocado flesh is purely (avocado) green, but when left in the air, takes on a blackish tint on the outer area. I have never encoutered black fibrous threads in a fresh avocado. I live in San Diego, an avocado rich area…where fruit straight from the groves is readily available. I wouldn’t eat it, myself…but I am no expert, just a lover.
