What are the biggest problems homeless persons and advocates face in Cleveland today?
Hate crimes in June 2008, Anthony Waters was beaten to death in broad daylight on E. 55th Street by a group of teens while walking between the shelter in which he was staying and his mothers house. There have also been several recent beatings and other attacks. Ohio is the fourth most dangerous place in the nation for homeless persons. Bed bugs there has been an attack of bed bugs in the shelters, which need to consider replacing all wood beds with metal frames to contain the problem. Overcrowding of family shelters homeless families often need to break apart to find space in the shelters. No more funding for the ID program without ID, a person cannot get a job, sign a lease, or vote. The program had purchased about $100,000 in birth certificates and state IDs for people who needed them before it ran out of money.
