Efficiency measures that reduce energy use (CFL lightbulbs) or reduce energy loss (heat exchanges, insulation etc) should be designed into new hotels or retro-fitted to older ones if possible. – energy demand management – new technology that will reduce electricity usage in peak periods to smooth overall demand and reduce the power companies’ need to provide peak supply capacity a short notice will mean that power companies will pay energy customers to include this technology in property management systems. – water use – bigger issue for hotels in hot countries or islands where fresh water is short in supply and more heavily in demand (eg for garden/golf course irrigation) – waste reduction and recycli
