What are the biggest challenges in delivering food to WFP beneficiaries in Yemen?
How is WFP overcoming them? Transportation poses a major challenge to WFP operations, because targeted districts in rural, remote areas and some of the terrain can be extremely difficult to navigate. To overcome this challenge, WFP transports food to final distribution points every three months (on average), rather than monthly. For nutrition interventions, this means that the food is delivered to health centers in rural areas on a three-month basis, and the center then distributes it as planned. Logistics posed a particular challenge in the immediate aftermath of the October floods, when all roads to the affected areas were underwater and severely damaged.
