What are the best ways to network or consult with Aboriginal communities?
There are many guidelines for consulting Aboriginal communities, such as the DADHC Aboriginal Consultation Strategy, DOCS Working With Aboriginal People and Communities Practice Resource or the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council, which could help disability services plan and develop consultations with local Aboriginal communities. In consulting with local Aboriginal communities, it is pivotal that knowledge be owned by Aboriginal community members. On the commencement of the ARP pilot, NDS participated in Aboriginal Inter-agencies and met with Aboriginal community managed services, committees, community networks, Elders’ Groups and committees of Aboriginal government workers, such as the DADHC Metro South committee of Aboriginal staff and the DADHC Southern Region Aboriginal Advisory Group.
