What are the best Transformers toys to start out with for a 5-1/2 year old boy?
We have a few Transformers toys, and for the most part I hate them. I can certainly tell you which ones are the worst, and which ones seem to hold up the best. The Transformers toys that look the coolest and have the most reasonable prices are the plastic ones. They are terrible! They are difficult to transform (especially the larger ones, like Optimus Prime) and the pieces pop off easily, which means they get lost easily. Once the toy has missing parts, no one wants to play with it. Stay away from these, as they will drive you crazy and not even last long. They might be better for an older child, but my five year old can’t transform them without help. Really, I think you need an engineering degree to be able to work these toys easily! Unfortunately, my husband has gotten several of these for the kids, so we now have quite a few broken Transformers floating around the house. We do have one metal Transformer toy. He doesn’t want the Transformers that he doesn’t know. He wants Bumblebee or Optimus Prime. He likes the good guys and not the bad guys. But, we did buy one bad guy so they can battle it out. We don’t like the Slammers because they don’t work so well. They work half the time, and the other half they don’t pop up. They are also too simple.
