What are the best things to do in Montreal?
What a difficult question to answer since it depends on your personality… I will leave the usual tourist sites for a guidebook (Oratoire St-Joseph, Olympic Stadium, Old Port…) but instead recommend you try to get a full cultural experience. Quebec is the only predominantly Francophone (French-speaking) area of North America, and has a long tradition of independence – I don’t mean it in a political sense, but rather a cultural one. Everything from cuisine, way to greet people, way to dress… is different. If you spend the summer months in Montreal, you can enjoy various festivals (Jazz, Just for Laughs…), sipping local brewery beers on an outdoor terrace, eat poutine while discussing how the Habs are doing (the local hockey team), and then go for dinner in the old port. Hope you have fun and bonne chance!
