What are the best things i can do to protect my car in the winter?
Give the battery an overnight charge – if your car still has problems starting, then I’d say, yes, your battery needs replacing. If the battery is new, however, there may be an underlying fault for poor starting – usually damp getting into the electrical system (older cars are more prone to this). The alternator may also be at fault and not charging the battery correctly. (worn/sticking brushes) Covering your windscreen with cardboard (not newspaper – this will stick to the screen and be a bugger to remove) will stop the windscreen frosting over. If your HT leads are old, it might be worth replacing them. Check the gap on the spark plugs. Change the oil if more than 6 months old Check the condition of your tyres and make sure their pressures are correct.
