What are the best souvenirs to buy in the bahamas?
While you are in the Bahamas , I’m sure you will have the opportunity to visit one of the many straw markets. There are many vender’s that have the same ol’ “made in China” souvenir’s, but there are a few that do their own craft work. Paradise Island has the best straw market if you are going to be in the Nassau area. The straw work is very popular for the ladies, and quite beautiful in the craft. There is a wood carver that works in the Bay Street straw market, and he has some really neat pieces, so be sure to look for him. Also you can find merchants selling conch shell and star fish along the way also. On one island there is a lady who bottles the beautiful pink sands to give away to children as souvenirs. Finding stuff won’t be a problem, finding just the right thing may take a bit more thought.
People really do seem to love those dreadlock hat things. Conch shell jewelry is really pretty and popular but Im not sure you should try taking whole chonch shells out of the country. Conch is endangered and customs agent may take them from you. At the higher end of the jewelry spectrum are pink pearls from the conch. A cd of bahamian music would be cool, like rake’n scrape or junkanoo, there are several people that sell hand painted art peices in the back of the straw market in bay street that are very pretty so in a way you can bring a beach back. There is a Bahamian pattern called Androsia that you can get alot of fashion in so take a look at that. Even if you dont stay at Atlantis you should check out Marina village you may find something rare though most of the things there can be bought downtown for cheaper. If you like rum there is a rum cake factory that sells cakes that can be taken home with you. They are really popular. Try the guava jams and jellies made here and if you lik
