The first place I would start is GENUKI:Ireland as this will have a lot of useful links and background information like maps etc to help you work from what you already know http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/irl/ The problem with Irish records is that many were burnt in the 1920s when the Record Office was burnt during the uprisings so there are some huge blanks in the records as a result. An explanation of Irish registration and its history can be found at http://www.groireland.ie/history.htm .
