Most recruiting firms will offer very limited screening. Typically with a contingency firm, questions will be limited to the most basic things – salary, location requirements, motivation, reason for leaving, and of course money. The real interviews, in most cases are left to the hiring clients. Of course in Executive Search the quality is better, generally more competency focussed and digging deeper, but there is a great degree of variance in quality, and sometimes the focus leans more towards cultural fit and a broad discussion of previous achievements. Over the years I’ve been hiring hybrid technical-business people I’ve built up a bunch of decent interview questions to help me identify the best possible talent for my clients. I’m not a technical expert myself, but my clients/candidates are, and I read avidly, referencing things like TOGAF to support my thinking.
