My favorite trail is the one to Snow Lake. Preview: Snow Lake is one of the most popular hikes in the Snoqualmie Pass area. The trail, though, is long and steep for children and has endured erosion from the constant stream of hikers. My own kids rebelled at backpacking it when they were eight, nine, and ten, and we bivouacked along the way. But the next day, seeing the lake, they wished they d kept going and camped there; we returned to do so several times. The rugged and beautiful setting tall cliffs on one side and vast valley on the other make it memorable for hikers of all ages.
