What are the benefits to using one of the Department’s design templates rather than our own architects?
The first priority for the BER is to stimulate the economy and create jobs quickly. This is in direct response to the global financial crisis. To speed up the process of starting construction, DEECD developed a suite of best practice design templates for each type of facility that may be funded under the BER. These design templates were put together by a consortia made up of a few of Victoria’s best architects and follow strong design principles for pedagogy, student safety and comfort, environmentally sustainable design (ESD) and keeping building operating costs to a minimum. The use of design templates shortens the time taken to get to construction and for completion.
