What are the benefits to my child being in a small mixed age group verses a larger group of children their own age?

When child participates in a group of mixed ages there are important social skills learned that may not happen in a group of same age children. The younger children learn important life skills from the older children, and the older children learn to care and nurture the younger children. This is why I personally enjoy working with mixed ages. To have an older child working side by side with a younger child is priceless in value for each of them. Back to top Q: What are the advantages to a play based curriculum compared to an academic based curriculum. The words “play based curriculum” can be misleading and most parents hearing those words will often ask “how can my child learn if all they do is play.” Research has shown that children learn best if they are active learners engaged in academic play verses sitting in a seat and completing worksheets and pre-defined crafts where everyone’s project looks the same. Here is an excellent article that explains this theory in much more detail.
