What are the benefits to a larger college which may already have Internet connectivity sufficient for its needs into the foreseeable future?
Bandwidth improvement is the effect of this project but it is not the goal. The goal of the project is to deliver cost-effective services, including new services as well as current services. This can mean delivery of programs outward from a college into the community via the Internet or receipt of data or programs inward over the Internet such as the kind of data the Bibliocentre delivers. All colleges benefit in the following ways: There is also a net effect of moving the entire college community further ahead. Equity benefits everybody. From a more practical point of view, a larger college will benefit other ways such as administrative savings. For example, with sufficient bandwidth, Voice over IP (Internet telephony) becomes a real possibility and while it will not replace the telephone, it will serve to reduce long distance costs on such things as conference calls.
