What are the benefits of virtual education?
Virtual education can help address increasing academic requirements of middle and high school students. Access to quality, qualified teachers who can teach advanced courses is an issue, and online options can provide advanced curricula such as Advanced Placement (AP) courses to students in schools where these subjects are not taught. This is especially true for rural and urban schools. Also, virtual education can assist those students who have physical disabilities or long-term medical conditions. Virtual education can help relieve classroom overcrowding. Section 1003.03, Florida Statutes, requires that district school boards consider adopting policies to encourage students to take Florida Virtual School courses to meet the constitutional class size amendment. Virtual education also can assist in credit recovery (or grade forgiveness), possibly helping students to graduate on time.
