MPI was developed as the first USB based format for the CRYPTO-BOX devices from MARX. The MPI format was developed to preserve compatibility with our existing parallel and serial port CRYPTO-BOXes. In 2005 MARX developed Smarx OS so that MARX could better utilize the full internal power of the CRYPTO-BOX USB hardware.
