What are the benefits of the TRP program, for victims of human trafficking?
TRP program assists them to • Escape the influence of their traffickers. • Recover from physical or mental trauma (by offering counseling or medical treatment. • Provide a period of reflection to decide if they wish to return home OR assist in the investigation or prosecution of the traffickers. • Provide a work permit allowing the victims to work in Canada while they consider their options. • The fees for the initial resident and work permits, which normally cost $200 and $150 each, is waived. • They may apply for permanent residence from within Canada through the refugee determination process, on humanitarian and compassionate grounds or, over time, as members of the permit holder class. • TRPs can be renewed at the end of the 180-day period.
