The scheme is a vehicle for retailers to jointly fund their new obligations to take back WEEE with out having to provide free in store take back’, which can be impractical, extremely costly and raise potential health and safety related issues. Retailers however will have the flexibility to continue existing take-back activities and complement this with either operating free in store take back or compliance via the retail scheme. For consumers? Consumers will be able to take their WEEE to their local CA site along with other waste. Retailers wanting to join the scheme or Civic Amenity sites wishing to register as Designated Collection Sites should contact the British Retail Consortium, email: weee@brc.org.
