What are the benefits of the new Homeland Security program for EKU?
The benefits will be enumerable. While it is still a very new program, we have high expectations about the effect the program will have on the University, students, faculty and the community. With the prominence of homeland security nationally and at the state levels, it is imperative that we address the issues and needs resulting from the development of the Department of Homeland Security [DHS] (which was mandated in the Homeland Security Act of 2002). The creation of the DHS represents the largest organizational mandate in the United States since 1947, when the Department of Defense was created. It is no wonder that the organization of the DHS has been a tremendous challenge for all who have had a part in this endeavor. We feel that our Homeland Security Program is only one step in a myriad of steps through which we will support the mandates of the DHS, and make our mark on both the state and national levels.
