This is an opportunity to create a new platform for delivering top quality health services to local residents in the years to come. A new, larger NHS trust would have the critical mass to: · develop sustainable and resilient clinical services into the future · ensure financial resilience and sustainability · define our organisation as a significant and robust health service provider and a powerful ally for the emerging Academic Health Sciences Centre · provide greater certainty for all staff and patients, offering rapid relief to current recruitment problems and putting us in a better position to attract the very best clinicians and managers. The merger is not principally about saving money, but an income of over £400m a year would mean the new trust would be approaching the size of organisations such as King’s College Hospital and would allow us to save around £2½m a year in management costs.
