What are the benefits of the approach proposed in the Curriculum Design paper?
• The Shape of the Australian Curriculum papers were developed to describe the learning area across P-12. This should strengthen continuity and sequencing within subjects. • The emphasis on clarity about content – that is the knowledge, understanding and skills that students are required to learn and teachers are required to teach – is a feature of education systems with high quality and high equity educational outcomes for students. • Standards described for the end of Year 11 may introduce new flexibilities into Queensland’s approach to learning in senior secondary. • Potential exists to achieve greater consistency in the content and achievement standards across Australian states and territories.
