What are the benefits of the anatomic ACL reconstruction?
The anatomic ACL reconstruction recreates the native kinematics (movement) of the knee better than the single-bundle, non-anatomic reconstruction. The native ACL controls both the rotation (twisting) and translation (forward/backward) movements of the knee. The anatomic reconstruction has been shown in biomechanical studies to be superior in controlling these motions. Theoretically, this increased control should lead to a decrease in further injury and degeneration of the patient’s knee.
