What are the benefits of synthetics over mineral oil lubricants?
Excellent viscosity/temperature properties and shear stability provide improved wear protection. Good high-temperature oxidation and thermal stability reduce deposit formation. Typically, the upper operating limit for synthetic lubricants is 50C (100F) higher than the maximum temperature for high-quality mineral oils. Good low-temperature characteristics improve cold-temperature flow properties. Compatibility with mineral oils so no special system design is required. Long service life: three to five times longer than the highest quality mineral oils when stressed by temperature. Low volatility reduces consumption and extends service life of high-temperature greases.
