What are the benefits of recycling aluminum?
Recycling saves 95% of the energy required to make aluminum from ore and avoids 95% of the associated emissions of CO2, SOx, and NOx. Each pound of aluminum that is recycled saves 6.5-7 kilowatt hours of electricity. At current recycling levels, roughly one third of the industry’s metal supply is from recycled metal, saving an equivalent of 90 million barrels of oil in energy.
