sometimes no words are the best words at the time. if its open ended because you have no idea how to answer it, then its better than giving them an inappropriate answer. if im not completely sure how to answer a questions my daughters ask me, ill back away from it until i think about it to come up with an age appropriate logical answer and get back to them. depending on the question, if its open just because you want them to figure it out, it lets the children come up with their own thoughts and ideas, forces them to think and be creative and come up with the answer, or for older children research the answer.
