WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MRP?
Since the MRP has a machine-readable zone that can be read by a machine or a computer, the processing of travelers at international ports and borders for entry or exit is much faster because the data in the passport can be read by a machine and stored automatically in the database of immigration officers. In the past, the information is manually encoded in the database. This means greater convenience and security for the traveler. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY OLD GREEN PASSPORT SINCE IT IS NOT YET EXPIRED? The old, green passports duly issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs and its Foreign Service Posts all over the world (e.g. the Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen) will remain valid until the date of expiry indicated on its data page. HOW CAN I GET AN MRP? Only the Department of Foreign Affairs issues the MRP. The production of MRPs is centralized in a facility run by the DFA in Manila. OFWs may also apply for an MRP at the DFA satellite office at the Philippine Overseas Employmen
