What are the benefits of MQL for health and working safety?
“Of all the substances used in the metal industry that cause occupational skin diseases, cooling lubricant is number one. According to a study conducted by iron and metal workers associations, 30% of new incidences of severe skin diseases or recurring skin diseases were caused by cooling lubricant. Metal workers such as turners, polishers, millers and drilling machine operators are particularly hard hit.” (German Association of Engineers Report 1339) Conventional water-soluble cooling lubricants contain many additives, e.g. for longer tool life; anti-microbial additives; anti-fog and anti-foaming additives; etc. Reaction products which build up in cooling lubricants over time (nitrosamines, polycyclic hydrocarbons, microorganisms – the latter in turn producing acids) also constitute health hazards.
