Physical contact and cuddling is nurturing and can promote growth. Eye contact promotes bonding between parent and infant. Compared with premature infants who do not participate in this type of program, Kangaroo Care babies may have shorter hospital stays and seem to cry less during their first six months. Parents who participate in Kangaroo Care generally feel more confident about responding to their infant’s needs in the NICU and are usually more comfortable about taking their baby home. Also, mothers are more inclined to breast-feed and produce more milk.
