What are the benefits of going to college directly after highschool?

I highly recommend going to college directly after high school. For one, many people who decide to “take a year (or undefined amount of time) off” don’t ever go, or feel “too old” to go to college. Of course, it’s never too late to go to college! If you’re not sure what you want to study, I recommend that you at least go to a CC to get the general education requirements out of the way. These usually involve at least one class from each of the major disciplines, & you may find an area that you like while you’re taking those courses. I found it difficult to go back to school after a one-year break because I wasn’t in that “school zone” anymore. Right out of high school you are used to getting up early & going to class all day so it’s an easy transition. You also have a lot of easily-accessible resources in high school regarding financial aid, career planning, etc. Talk to your guidance counselor or an admissions officer, and good luck!
