what are the benefits of getting a nuclear defence system for our country?
First of all, I must say that personally I do not feel the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, and that I am against any further expansion of the “nuclear club”. That said, the advantages for a non-nuclear country of going nuclear are largely symbolic. The country gains in status by becoming a member of an elite group. The country’s stock in negotiations with their neighbors or those with whom they have conflicts rises. They become a country to be reckoned with. There is an elevation in the self confidence of the government of the country which translates to a stronger bargaining position with other countries, particularly those who are non-nuclear. Becoming a player in the nuclear club raises the country from their previous status as a “third world” or “developing country” on the outside looking in on world political machinations to that of a major world power.
