It doesn’t have immediate benefits (like feeling awake with caffeine), but overall throughout the day drinking water will stimulate your metabolism and help you stay hydrated and refreshed.

There are several benefits of drinking water. The primary purpose is to rehydrate your body from water loss. We have all become too used to drinking sodas, coffee & energy drinks in the morning. Unfortunately caffeine dehydrates the body meaning we walk around even more dehydrated. so drinking water in the morning hydrates the body, it gets your metabolism running (helps loose weight), it helps your body digest and absorb vitamins and nutrients & it helps detoxify your body as well. The more water you drink the better it is for you. Some interesting information on this can be found at Better Way Health.

Your body needs a regular infusion of water all day, not just the morning. Water is necessary to purge the toxins from your blood. It’s also necessary in the process of burning stored fat. Without the right amount of water stored fat will not release as quickly, so your workout is not as effective. It’s even more important that you don’t over do the water. If you flood your system it screws up your electrolytes and can cause serious, possibly life threatening, imbalances. Drink 64 oz of fluids a day. Drink a bit extra to compensate for caffeinated drinks, as they act as diuretics. You only need an extra 3 or so oz. for each caffeine drink though.
