What are the benefits of demi-pointe shoes?
Answer HI Allison, your teacher should recommend to you that you wear demi-pointe shoes in class; some teachers like them and some teachers don’t. Also, it is a step towards being prepared for pointe work, and that decision should come from your teacher. That aside, a demi pointe shoe is similar to a pointe shoe, although you do not have the ability to rise up on pointe in them. Generally, they have a softer, shorter box and softer shank, though they feel much like a pointe shoe. They can help to get you used to wearing pointe shoes, and dancing in them, before you begin true pointe work. You certainly shouldn’t be killing your feet in them, especially if your teacher thinks you’re ready. Talk to him or her and get their advice. Good luck.
