A major benefit of booking cruise line airfare is that, usually, the cruise line will include free round trip ground transportation between the ship and pier (Princess Cruises is one of the cruise lines that does not offer free ground transfers with their air). Another benefit is that if you have a problem with your flight and miss the ship’s initial departure, the cruise line will often times try to figure out a way to get you to meet the ship at a future port of call (this is not always the case though).
