What are the benefits of an abroad internship versus local internships?

If your degree (and hopefully interest) is in international business, then it makes a lot more sense to do your internship overseas. That will give you some practical experience in dealing with business situations in another country. That said, a summer working for a government contractor seems like it might provide better professional development than one working for a college. Internships done at a college (possibly wth the exception of scientific research) generally look like jobs for people who didn’t try hard enough to get something better. If I were you, I’d continue looking for something else overseas. Like maybe find an Indian or Chinese professor to see if they could hook you up with companies in India or China that might be willing to have an American work there for a summer.
